Teaching is tailored to each individual's needs and preferences. Teaching strategies that are aversive for a client, are discontinued and new strategies are implemented. When possible, the client is asked directly what their preferences are. If a strategy is found to be aversive, either because a client communicates this directly or through non-verbal behavior, escape behavior is reinforced, and a different approach to teaching will be tested.
